The Griffin Development consists of the Griffin, Scindian and Chinook reservoirs. First oil was produced in 1994 and production ceased in 2009, with well abandonment undertaken in 2018.
The Griffin Development is situated within production licence WA-10-L located on the North West Shelf in Commonwealth waters in depths of about 130 m, approximately 62 km from Onslow, Western Australia.
Subsea infrastructure connected the reservoirs to the Griffin Venture floating, production storage and offtake (FPSO) facility, which was installed on a riser turret mooring. Oil was exported from the FPSO to export tankers, and gas was exported via a pipeline to the onshore Tubridgi Gas Plant.
The Griffin Development is now in non-production phase and the FPSO has been removed. At the cessation of production, flowlines were flushed with treated seawater. Ongoing operations include periodic surface and subsea inspections of the remaining subsea infrastructure.
Full-field decommissioning of the remaining infrastructure will be undertaken at a future point in time and will be subject to separate approvals for this phase of activities.
