Eni Energy Bonaparte Pty Ltd (Eni) is the operator of the Petrel gas field in the Bonaparte Basin in northern Western Australia. The Petrel field is located within retention leases NT/RL1 and WA-6-R, approximately 240 km west of Darwin in water depths ranging between 89 m and 107 m.

This Environment Plan (EP) has been prepared to allow for survey activities to acquire geotechnical, geophysical and environmental data, as well as to undertake associated support operations for the purpose of potential future exploration and development of the Petrel field. The future development of the Petrel field may include subsea infrastructure and facilities, and potentially a gas export pipeline that will connect the platform with Eni’s existing Blacktip Project.

Initial survey campaigns are expected to take place as early as Q3 2026, however surveys could occur anytime over the 5-year period duration of the in-force EP. All survey activity campaign commencement times and durations are approximate and are subject vessel availability and weather conditions. Survey activities will be undertaken on a continual 24 hours per day / 7 days per week basis.

Geotechnical surveys to support the development campaign have the longest duration of approximately 40 days. Surveys to support the exploration campaign are shorter (approximately 10 days each) as they will be carried out across the retention leases only. Further survey campaigns may be undertaken anytime within the operational area until 2030 to support any additional exploration and/or appraisal well sites.
