Santos NA Barossa Pty Ltd (Santos), as titleholder and nominated operator for the Barossa joint venture, proposes to conduct production operations activities within Commonwealth petroleum production licence NT/L1, and Commonwealth petroleum pipeline licences NT/PL5 and NT/PL6.
The Barossa field is located approximately 285km offshore north-northwest of Darwin. The project includes gas and condensate production from six subsea wells, processing at a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facility, condensate export via tankers and transport of natural gas via gas export pipeline (GEP) to the DLNG facility.
The Activity includes two defined operational areas as follows:
• Operational area 1 (OA1) located at the Barossa gas field encompasses the FPSO, subsea infrastructure and the start of the GEP.
• Operational area 2 (OA2) encompasses the area 500 m either side of the Barossa GEP route from operational area 1 to the Commonwealth/NT waters boundary.
Activities included in the Barossa Productions Operations EP are summarised below:
Activities:
• FPSO arrival, hook-up and commissioning
• Initial start-up to steady state
• Operation of FPSO and subsea infrastructure and associated activities
• IMMR activities for subsea infrastructure and GEP
Timing and duration:
FPSO hook-up and commissioning is expected to commence in the first half of 2025, subject to acceptance of this EP. The approximate duration of the required activities is 3 months.
FPSO Initial start-up will commence upon completion of hook-up and commissioning. The associated activities are expected to be approximately 4 months.
Following start-up and ramp-up to full production, steady state production is planned to commence in Q3 2025 and will be continuous for approximately 25 years.
Planned IMMR activities will occur at the following frequencies:
• OA1- Initial inspections performed during the first two years of operations. Subsequent frequencies will then be determined via a risk-based inspection program
• OA2 - from three to five years. The findings will be used to inform future frequencies.
The duration of each IMMR campaign is approximately 21 days.
