Woodside has prepared an Environment Plan for the Argus-2 well site. The Argus-2 wellhead is located in Retention Lease AC/RL8 which is located in Commonwealth waters approximately 550 km offshore north of Broome Western Australia.
No listed World Heritage Properties or Commonwealth Marine Areas are adjacent or overlapping the Argus-2 wellhead location. The closest sensitive receptors to the well site are Seringapatam Reef approximately 75 km southwest; Scott Reef 105 km southwest; and Ashmore and Cartier Island, 110 km northeast of the Argus-2 wellhead location.
In June 2011 Woodside drilled the appraisal well Argus-2 in the Browse Basin using the Ocean America semi-submersible drilling rig operated by Diamond Offshore. Argus-2 was a vertical appraisal well commissioned by Woodside.
Following successful completion of plug and abandonment activities in 2011, Woodside has left and proposes to continue to leave the Argus-2 appraisal wellhead in-situ permanently. As plug and abandonment activities were successfully completed in 2011, Woodside does not intend to re-enter the field associated with this Environment Plan, consequently installation, support and other vessels will not be required as part of the proposed activity.
Acceptance of the Argus-2 Wellhead Environment Plan will satisfy requirements under the OPGGS Act and associated regulations, and assess acceptability of leaving the Argus-2 wellhead in-situ permanently.
