Activity Description
INPEX, as operator of the Bonaparte Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Assessment Joint Venture is currently undertaking a 3-year subsurface appraisal programme of the greenhouse gas (GHG) assessment permit G-7-AP (herein referred to as G-7-AP). The purpose of the appraisal program is data collection to further understand the characteristics and suitability of the area as a future carbon storage area. To date the appraisal program has included the acquisition and interpretation of seismic survey data and the drilling of two wells for the purpose of data collection. In parallel with the appraisal programme, INPEX is conducting a preliminary assessment and selection of a suitable development concept including preliminary facility designs for the transport and sequestration of carbon dioxide.

To inform the design and location of the potential future development, INPEX is proposing to undertake a range of geophysical and geotechnical surveys. The survey data obtained will be used to inform the design and location of potential infrastructure within G-7-AP and a pipeline corridor, both of which would be subject to other environmental approvals.
The scope of this Environment Plan (EP) covers geophysical and geotechnical survey activities within the proposed survey area) located within G-7-AP, petroleum permit NT/P88 (exploration permit) and adjacent Commonwealth marine waters.

Activities include:

Geophysical survey scope comprising of:
• multi-beam echo-sounder and LiDAR for bathymetry
• side scan sonar
• sub-bottom profiling and imaging
• magnetometer

Geotechnical survey scope comprising of:
• seabed grab sampling (box core)
• geotechnical piezocone penetration tests
• geotechnical borehole, and vibrocore, and gravity cores.

Collection of marine baseline data.

Survey activities may be completed over several multi-week campaigns and could consist of approximately 90 to 120 days of survey activities in total potentially over three calendar years.
